The 2013 Study of the U.S. Institute on New Media and Journalism at Ball State University includes 15 undergraduate students from Indonesia and Malaysia.The program consists of lectures, workshops, field trips, and cultural activities, and plenty of free time to explore the surroundings.

Academics: Faculty will lecture on topics that include foundations of American journalism and new media, writing and reporting, social media, leadership, and U.S. history and foreign policy.

Guest presenters, field trips: Journalists from some of the top news organizations in the United States will talk about their work and answer your questions. A field trip to a local television station in Indianapolis also is planned.

Multimedia skills: You will work with top quality audio and video equipment, and utilize the latest software to produce stories for the Web, print and broadcast.

Community service/workshops: Each week you’ll help a community service organization in the Muncie area and learn how volunteers make a difference in their communities. Leadership workshops will develop your skills in areas such as management, team building, organizational communication and conflict resolution.

U.S. society and culture: You will learn about American life during social events with American students and homestays with American families. Local visits are planned to the Indiana Statehouse and Conner Prairie Interactive History Park. You also will visit the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Educational study tour: The trip to New York City and Washington, D.C. includes visits to the Statue of Liberty, the United Nations, U.S. Capitol and the Smithsonian. We also will make a stop at in Philadelphia, the birthplace of American Independence.
